Mt Dewar Subdivision Hazard Assessment

This project involved assessing the landslide hazard to proposed building platforms within a proposed residential subdivision on Mt Dewar near Queenstown.

The development area included a significant section of aged landslide on the flanks of Mt Dewar.  Because of the variability of the ground conditions associated with the landslide mass, each individual building platform was assessed and hazard issues relating to both global and local stability were assessed.

The work involved developing a robust approach to a complex geological and geotechnical problem. It was necessary to scope and direct appropriate site investigation and mapping work. Investigation, evaluation and technical reporting work included stereo pair photo assessment, site investigation, geological mapping, survey research and survey monitoring and risk assessment in accordance with GNS guidelines.

Ultimately, the Consenting Authorities were satisfied with the risk assessment and agreed with the findings, allowing this aspect of the proposed subdivision to proceed.
